YOUR WEDDING CAKE
  by Elegant Cakes

The cutting of the cake is an important part of the ceremony.
Some couples still prefer traditional fruit cake, particularly when there is a
large dessert table, so that the cake is not wasted. It can always be kept in a
cool place to be eaten later, or can be divided between the family
members. Others prefer a cake that can be eaten as part of the dessert.
Carrot cake is very popular, and so is chocolate cake and sponge cake with a
flavouring other than vanilla, for example, lemon, poppy seed, cappuccino,
or a marble cake, etc. (Be sure to pick a tasty filling).

Other popular styles are miniature cakes encased in a chocolate ring, with
truffles or strawberries dipped in chocolate on top. The wedding cake you
choose will be determined by what you can afford, because the cake can be
quite expensive. Cup cakes displayed on a pretty stand with flowers, leaves
or baby’s breath between them, or a wedding cake with designer detail
similar to that on the dress, are also popular.

Get an appointment with the person who will bake your wedding cake, well
in advance. It is important to discuss the reception venue with him/her to
make sure that the cake is suited for the venue. Ask where the cake will stand
and whether the table will be big enough. The table drapery should match
the cake and there should not be too many candles, flowers and decorations
that will distract people’s attention from the cake. The wedding cake is
supposed to be a showpiece at your wedding – it should not only look good,
but it should also taste good. Remember that quality should always be the
  distinguishing factor.

The cake must be delivered about an hour before the wedding. Make sure
that a trustworthy person will pick up the cake and that the car will be suited
to the task – it should definitely not be an open bakkie!

Enjoy planning your special cake and day.
