JEWELLERY
  by Annabelle

“Your lips are like a thread of scarlet, and your speech is comely. Your
temples are like a piece of pomegranate within your locks. Your neck is like
the tower of David built for an armoury…. You have ravished my heart with
one glance of your eyes, with one chain of your neck… The joints of your
thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.” (from the
  Song of Solomon)

A thousand years before Christ walked the earth, jewellery was already an
integral part of what brides wore. Even Solomon wrote lyrically about the
jewellery his bride was wearing! He compared the exquisite beauty of his
bride to that of precious jewels created by an artist.

The jewellery you choose to wear for your wedding is not a mere aside – it
can complement your appearance or it can detract badly from your overall
look. There are no rules, but there are a few guidelines that can help you to
pick the perfect jewellery for a perfect day.

  First look at your budget. The designer must know how much you can afford;
it will definitely play a role in your choice of jewellery. Remember that your
jewellery should complement the designer dress you have chosen – do not
skimp on the jewellery and ruin the overall look, including your lovely dress.

Your look and the colours and theme you choose for your wedding day
usually reflect your personality. Choose your jewellery to suit your personality
and complete the picture. If you are a sporty type of girl who prefers
simplicity, keep your jewellery simple and classical, but stylish.

A spontaneous, impulsive girl who likes challenges and loves taking a few
chances can choose jewellery that makes a statement. Discuss the option of
something really exclusive with your designer. You must feel comfortable
and lovely – consider wearing a tiara – this is your only chance to look and
  feel like a real princess!

Let the design, colour and texture of the fabric of your dress guide you to the
right choice of your bridal jewellery. If your dress has a low neckline and your
shoulders are bare, you can wear almost anything around your neck. If you
are wearing a halter-neck, beautiful crystal or pearl earrings and a pretty
bracelet are a good option. If the fabric is richly embroidered, you must
scale down your jewellery and opt for something more subtle and simple. If
your dress is soft and simple, choose something that sparkles and stands out
a bit. Bear in mind that your wedding dress and jewellery should form a unit
and that you need to maintain a fine balance.

Of course, you should not forget what you want to wear in your hair. Today,
there are a multitude of options. A tiara is still the traditional choice, but you
can use a number of crystal clips most effectively. White crystals sparkle
beautifully in dark hair, but tend to ‘disappear’ in fair hair. If your hair is fair,
you can use colour (to match your theme) or a few little pearls.

The most important thing is that you must be happy with your appearance
on this special day in your life. Remember that you are not going to all this
effort to impress your guests; you are doing it because you want to be the
loveliest bride in all the world for your groom!
