YOUR HAIR
  by Neri Potgieter

The months that precede her wedding are surely the most wonderful time
in any woman’s life. Your hair is one of the most important aspects of your
big day and it should not be neglected – it takes months of preparation to
make you the loveliest bride you can be! The following aspects should be
considered before you finally decide what your hair should look like:

  The condition of your hair
  Your hair’s colour and cut
Does the style suit your personality, your dress and the overall look you
want to create for your day?
Do you want a tiara or crystals for your hair?
What will your veil look like?
  Your hair stylist
  How the day will run

Your hair’s condition is the point of departure. If your hair is healthy and
shiny, you can wear the simplest style and look like a princess. There are
few things prettier than smoothly blow-dried, glossy hair. This means that
your shampoo, conditioner and hair treatments must be of really good
quality. A salon product is better than a supermarket product, because it
lasts much longer and gives better results.

You can discuss the cut and colour of your hair with your hair stylist, so that
together you can get the best results. The colour of your hair should
complement the undertone of your skin, in other words, cool or warm. A
good hair stylist should know what this means and should be able to give
you all the information you need in this regard.

Sometimes it is very difficult to choose the right hairstyle for your wedding.
The first thing to consider is the style of dress you are wearing – is it
romantic or dramatic? What mood do you want to create at the wedding –
soft and like a fairy tale or colourful and dramatic? Decide what you like,
write down a few descriptive words and read them to your stylist. She
should understand what you like very well. Look at a few magazines and

pick out a few examples of styles you like; it is important to do your
homework thoroughly. Your stylist can make some suggestions, but you
should also have a good idea of what you like. You must feel comfortable
  with the hairstyle you choose.

You can wear a tiara or diamanté or pearls in your hair. Pick one of these,
not all of them – less is more. If you do not want to wear a tiara, look at the
details on your dress and repeat them in your hair, but do not overdo
things. Your veil must also match the style of your dress; discuss this with
your designer. It would be ideal if you could take your veil with you when
you go to the hairdresser for your trial run. Try to arrange a fitting of your
dress after you have done the trial run on your hair, so that you can see
whether everything matches. It is a lot of fun, and you can take your
  bridesmaid with you!

If possible, take the jewellery you want to wear to the hairdresser for the
trial run too. Then you can see whether it will match your hairstyle. If your
hair will be up, you can get away with small earrings, but if you intend to
wear your hair loose, you may want to opt for fairly big earrings.

Book your hair stylist as soon as possible, particularly if your wedding is
planned for one of the busier seasons. Pay a deposit so that you know that
your appointment is confirmed. Book a trial run so that you are sure that
you are happy with the person’s work. If you want your hair and that of any
family member’s hair to be done at the wedding venue, ask very
specifically for this and give your stylist a map to the venue. Stylists usually
ask an additional fee to come out. Make sure that the day is well planned.
Every person’s booking time must preferably be confirmed beforehand, so
that you can ensure that everyone will be ready on time, particularly if you
want to have some photographs taken before the wedding.

If you plan well, your wedding can only be a huge success. Finally, sit back
and relax; let the professionals take care of things and enjoy every
  moment!
